West Brom are facing a battle to hold on to their striker Shane Long according to The Mirror.

The Irish international has been in fine form for West Brom this season but has find his role for the club slightly diminished following the arrival of Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku on loan.

The club remain more than happy with Long’s performance and are hoping to persuade the player to extend his current contract with the club.

Long has hit the back of the net on nine occasions this year and remains integral to West Brom’s plans for the future.

But Long has just twelve months left remaining on his current deal and the club’s sporting director Richard Garlick recently travelled to Ireland to speak to the 26 year old’s advisers about a new deal.

The uncertainty over the player’s future has not gone unnoticed with Long attracting the attention of a number of top European sides.

Italian giants Lazio are thought to be keen to bring Long to Italy as they look for a goal source to help the ageing Miroslav Klose.

Sevilla are also thought to be monitoring Long’s availability as they see the Irish hitman as the perfect replacement should Alvaro Negredo leave the club.
