Liverpool have denied reports linking them with a move for Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The French midfielder has become one of Newcastle’s best players since joining the club from Marseille.

Ben Arfa has gone on to establish himself as one of the best wingers in the Premier League but his form this season has been blighted by injuries.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to be a firm admirer of the midfielder. Reports in recent weeks had suggested that Rodgers had identified Ben Arfa as the perfect player to provide some guile and trickery onto the Liverpool flanks.

There were even suggestions that the player could be used as part of a deal that would bring Geordie striker Andy Carroll back to St. James’ Park.

But Rodgers has moved to pour cold water on speculation linking Ben Arfa with a move to Merseyside.

One potential obstacle may have been Rodgers’ transfer budget for the summer. He has been told by the Liverpool hierarchy that he will have just £20 million to spend on new recruits this summer.

That could not only price Ben Arfa out of a move, but may also be the reason why Rodgers is keen to sell Carroll rather than include him as part of a player exchange deal.
