Belgian keen on Anfield move.

Check in to Reading vs Liverpool

Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld has publicly stated his desire to join Liverpool according to the Daily Express.

The adaptable youngster has been targeted by a number of Premier League sides, including Man United and Everton, but a move to Anfield is apparently one the 24 year old is keen to make.

On the subject of a possible Ajax exit the Belgian international is reported to have stated;

“I do not want to play in an English club to mid-table. Unlike Newcastle, Liverpool meets my criteria.”

Brendan Rodgers is on the look-out for a new defensive option with Martin Skrtel seemingly being out of favour with the Anfield boss, and with Jamie Carragher due to retire at the end of the current campaign.

Alderweireld can effectively fill both a central defensive role as well as at right-back and has been a huge success at Ajax, the club he joined as a 15 year old.

The Antwerp born defender has racked up over 175 appearances for Ajax and has helped them to back to back Eredivisie titles and is part of an in-form Belgian national team that look likely to secure qualification for the 2014 World Cup.
