Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has revealed that he believes the title race would have been much different had the club signed Robin Van Persie last summer according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian boss has been forced to watch as his side have surrendered a twelve point lead to city rivals Manchester United in the race for the Premier League title this season.

Mancini believes the season would have panned out much differently had the Citizens persuaded Van Persie to move to the Etihad Stadium.

City were thought to be one of the front runners for Van Persie’s signature only for the Dutch striker to eventually sign for Sir Alex Ferguson’s men.

The striker’s goals in the first half of the campaign secured United a number of key victories which have proved to be significant in deciding which half of Manchester will be victorious this season in the Premier League.

Mancini expressed his belief that United were not necessarily a better team but that Van Persie had proved the difference between the two sides over the course of the current campaign.
