Manchester City are preparing to splash the cash this summer as they look to close the gap on their Premier League rivals Manchester United.

But the club have seemingly not forgotten the importance of building for the future according to The Daily Mail.

While the likes of Napoli’s Edinson Cavani and Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao are all being suggested as possible £50 million-plus arrivals this summer, Leeds United youngster Sam Byram can now add his name to the list of players thought to be interesting the big spending Premier League giants.

Byram has been in good form for Leeds this season and has put in a number of impressive displays for the Championship side.

The player has reportedly won the admiration of City boss Roberto Mancini, who has put Byram top of a list of English players he wants to bring to the Etihad this summer.

Leeds are keen to hold on to their young star but may be forced into accepting City’s approaches with the club set to bid £10 million for Byram’s services.

£6 million will be paid to the Yorkshire club up front with rest being conditional on performances. Byram is also likely to be initially sent back to Leeds on loan.
