Arsenal and Stoke have begun talks over a potential summer move for goalkeeper Asmir Begovic according to The Daily Mail.

Stoke are aware of interest from a number of other parties for Begovic and are keen to extract as high a transfer fee as possible for the stopper.

Begovic has been in fine form this season for Stoke but his displays have not been enough to prevent their recent loss of form.

The likes of Manchester United and Liverpool remain interested in the player and with Jack Butland arriving at the club from Birmingham at the end of the season, it seems almost certain that Begovic will leave the club come the summer.

Arsenal have reportedly stolen a march on their rivals in the race for the player’s signature after beginning talks with Stoke over a move.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer after becoming frustrated with the erratic displays of Wojciech Szczesny. The French boss reportedly is of the belief that he introduced Szczesny to the first team at too young an age and is keen to bring in a more reliable mentor for the young Polish stopper.

Begovic is keen to ensure he continues playing first team football at his new club and is reportedly tempted by Arsenal’s offer of the number one gloves at the Emirates.
