Manchester City and Arsenal are gearing up for a summer battle to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Gotze according to Kicker.

The German midfielder has been in fine form this season for the Bundesliga side and has played a key role in the successful Champions League campaign that has seen Dortmund reach the semi-finals of the competition.

The player’s performances have not gone unnoticed outside of Germany and it appears the midfielder is set to be at the centre of a tug of war for the player’s services.

Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain has reportedly identified Gotze as the club’s top summer transfer target and the Etihad side are prepared to flex their financial muscle to ensure the player joins the club.

That will not prevent Arsenal from going in for the Gotze’s signature as they are keen to rebuild their squad following a disappointing season.

The club have now paid off the loan they took out to build the Emirates Stadium and know they need to bring in a marquee signing to appease the club’s disgruntled fans.

Dortmund are ready to pull out all the stops to keep the player in Germany though and are likely to demand at least fourty million Euros to part ways with Gotze.
