Emirates Stadium side keen on Black Cats custodian.

Arsenal are set to step up their attempts to bring in Sunderland goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet, according to the Express.

Arsene Wenger has made the goalkeeping position his number one priority this summer and will try to land the 25-year-old when the transfer window opens.

The 6’3 stopper was linked with both Arsenal and Manchester United in January.

However, Wenger has admitted an interest in Real Madrid goalkeeper, Iker Casillas after the Spaniard admitted that he could be tempted by a move to the Premier League in the near future. Wenger is apparently weighing up a move for the Madrid man as he hopes he will act as a mentor to Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski, who’s performances have been come under scrutiny recently.

Despite Sunderland sitting in 17th place in the table, Mignolet has managed to keep nine clean sheets for the Black Cats this season. He is thought to be keen to move on regardless of whether the club beat the drop as he wants to further his credentials with the Belgian national side, where he competes with Chelsea and Atletico Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois.

Mignolet has made nearly 100 appearances for Sunderland since joining from Sint-Truiden in 2010. He is currently valued at £5.5 million.
