Old Trafford side keen to sign Madrid centre back Raphael Varane.
Manchester United are set to make an ambitious attempt to sign Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane according to The Daily Star.
The nineteen year old centre-back has burst onto the scene this season with some highly impressive performances in the Real Madrid backline.
Varane has played so well for the Spanish giants that he has now firmly established himself in the Madrid starting line up ahead of the likes of Raul Albiol and Ricardo Carvalho.
United tried to sign Varane from Lens only to miss out to Madrid in the race for the player’s signature.
The Old Trafford club are set to renew their attempts to sign the player and are set to make a big money bid for the French international.
Varane reportedly has a release fee clause of £26 million and United are thought to be ready to get close to that, if not match it.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to bring a young centre back as he prepares his team for life without ageing defensive pair Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Should they fail to negotiate a deal for Varane, United are reportedly ready to rekindle their interest in Benfica’s Argentinian centre back Ezequeil Garay
