Former Valencia Man Eyes Summer Switch To Premier League

Numancia star eyes move to top flight in England, but Championship may come first.

Numancia midfielder, Stephen ‘Sunny’ Sunday has expressed a desire to swap the beaches of Spain for the Premier League this summer, Sky Sports understands.

The 24-year-old is out of contract with the Segunda Liga club this summer and his availability has got several English sides all a flutter. Sunny, as he’s affectionately known, was once watched by Portsmouth and Bristol City, and came close to joining Blackpool in 2010, is thought to be on the radars of Crystal Palace and Leeds United this time around and he’s eager to seal a move to England.

“I am out of contract at the end of the season and I know my agent is talking to other clubs and there are offers on the table,” he said.

“Presently I still have a contract with Numancia and my focus is ending the season well with them and making sure they are secure in the league.

“It is very important to end the season and I will make a decision on my future when the season is over.”

Born in Nigeria, Sunny began his career in Spain at Pol Ejido before sealing a dream move to Valencia in 2001. However, just seven appearances and three loan spells away later and he was handed over to Numancia where he has made over 50 appearances and scored twice.

Despite representing Spain a numerous youth levels, he switched allegiances to his birth nation in 2010 and currently has one cap for Nigeria.
