Race for German youngster hots up.
Real Madrid are the latest side to throw throw their hat into the ring in the battle to sign Schalke 04 midfielder Julian Draxler, talkSPORT understands.
The 19-year-old is currently one of football’s hottest properties and has already been the subject of heavy speculation liking him with a move to Manchester United.
Draxler has been in fine form for the Bundesliga side, scoring 11 times in 34 appearances so far this season and he was a key member of the squad that made it to the last 16 of the Champions League.
However, the youngster may still stay at Schalke. The club want him to sign a new deal to keep him at The Veltins Arena as his current deal expires in 2016, but the Madrid giants, along with United, may test both the player and club’s resolve with a £15 million move over the summer.
Madrid could be a plausible destination too. Over recent years they’ve taken young German talent and helped develop them into some of the worlds finest players as Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira can attest.
Already a German international with four caps, Draxler became Schalke’s youngest ever player to wrack up 100 appearances having broke into the squad as a 17-year-old in 2010.
