Wigan Battle La Liga Duo For Forward Ace Riki

Wigan look to La Liga to boost firepower.

Wigan Athletic have identified Deportivo La Coruna forward, Riki, as the man to solve the goal scoring woes next season, talkSPORT reports.

Far from a household name on these shores, the 32-year-old is well known in Spain and Wigan will face a battle to land his signature as both Espanyol and Real Zaragoza are both keen on brining the veteran striker to the club.

Riki, who’s real name is Ivan Sanchez-Rico Soto, has been in fine form for the Galician club this season, notching 12 goals in 29 games and this is after playing a key role in helping Depor’ win the Segunda Division title last season with 14 goals.

A move to England may appeal, though. The former Real Madrid youth product joined Deportivo in 2006 and at his age this may be the last chance he will get to test himself in another league. Riki has scored 51 goals in over 200 appearances during that time.

He is out of contract at the end of the season, and Zaragoza have reportedly already made enquiries about taking him to the south. So Wigan will have to act fast if they want to bring him to the DW Stadium.

The Latics may do well to hold off until they can be sure of their Premier League status, even though they have secured European football for next season by landing a place in the FA Cup final.
