German giants within touching distance of historic treble.

Bayern Munich remain in good stead to land an historic treble, the BBC reports.

Having already ended Borussia Dortmund’s two year reign at the top of the league by claiming the title back with six games to go, a record in Germany, they put themselves into the final of the German Cup by dispatching Wolfsburg 6-1.

Already 3-0 up on aggregate, Bayern looked to finish the job with a minimal of fuss until Mario Gomez stepped off the bench and put an end to all doubts by nailing a six minute hat trick.

The league champions will now face either Stuttgart or Freiburg in the final in Berlin on June 1st. Stuttgart are already 2-1 ahead in the tie and they will play the second leg this Sunday.

Bayern also face Barcelona in the final four of the Champions League next week. Beating Barca will be no east feat but the Bavarians will be feeling confident after thumping four past Juventus in the last round.

The German side are currently second favourites behind their upcoming opponents to win the tournament this year.
