Everton have reportedly identified PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman as the ideal replacement for the exiting Marouane Fellaini, according to The Express.

The Belgian looks increasingly ready to leave Goodison Park this summer, especially as the club have effectively missed out on securing Champions League football for next term, and with Everton five points short of the Europe League spot in fifth place they run the risk of missing out on European football altogether.

Strootman had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United earlier this season, though nothing materialised as they were reluctant to meet PSV on their £17 million valuation of the 23-year-old.

However, Everton who are famous for putting together good squads on shoestring budgets are also said to be shaking their heads at the price. They are likely to claim around £20 million for Fellaini but David Moyes won’t want to spend the entire fee on one player and reports suggest that they will try to haggle the Dutch side down to £10 million.

Strootman is rumoured to be keen to test himself in England, though it’ not known if he will try to force a move away from the Phillips Stadion.

The Dutch international has bagged eight goals in 34 games so far this season.
