Liverpool are said to be keen on acquiring in-form Aston Villa forward Andreas Weimann according to the Daily Mirror.

The Anfield side are just one of a number of Premier League sides monitoring the 21 year old’s ongoing contract negotiations with Aston Villa, with his current deal having just over a year to run.

This source dubs Weimann as ‘The New Dirk Kuyt’ due to his adaptable attacking ability and Liverpool will battle Newcastle United, Norwich City and Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in a race to lure the Austrian international away from Villa Park.

Weimann has had an excellent season this term, combining well with fellow attackers Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor in a three pronged attack that is of a quality far above Paul Lambert’s current Premier League standing.

Brendan Rodgers may be keen to bring in a further attacking option to complement the likes of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge and interest shown by the Merseyside club could well lead to questions about the future of Italian Fabio Borini, who is still awaiting his first Premier League goal after a very disappointing injury ravaged first season at Liverpool following his move from Roma.

Weimann has netted 11 goals in all competitions thus far this season.
