Italian club, AC Milan, are reportedly running the rule over a summer swoop for Spurs left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto, according to The Express.

The 29-year-old has apparently been told that he is free to leave this summer after injuries and a loss of form has seen the Cameroonian make just 11 appearances for Spurs this term.

Both Kyle Naughton and Jan Vertonghen have filled in at left back in his absence this season and Andre Villas-Boas has set his sights on bringing in a replacement.

Lyon youngster, Samuel Umtiti, who scored a wonder goal against the North Londoners for the French side during their Europa League tie earlier this term, is said to be one on AVB’s transfer priorities. A move for the Frenchman would spell the end of a seven year stay at White Heart Lane for Assou-Ekotto.

However, Milan may be able to offer him a lifeline as they look to reshuffle the pack this summer in order to mount a more convincing Scudetto challenge next year.

They’ll have to pay somewhere in the region of £11 million, though, if they want to land the flamboyant full back.

Assou-Ekotto joined Spurs from Lens in 2006 and has been a largely popular figure during his time at the club. He has gone on to make almost 200 appearances for the Lillywhites, scoring five goals.
