Tottenham are set to miss out on transfer target Leandro Damiao with Napoli on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign him, talkSPORT reports.

The 23-year-old almost joined the North London club in January as discussions with his current club, Internacional, going on until late in the hour on deadline day but an agreement couldn’t be reached and the deal fell through.

However, they may have left it too late as Italian giants Napoli have reportedly agreed a £16 million fee for the Brazilian as they look to replace the PSG bound Edinson Cavani.

If a transfer to the Italian side breaks down, Villas-Boas will stand ready to pounce as he seeks to put new options into his attack.

Damiao has become one of football’s hottest properties after breaking into the Internacional side in 2010. He has made 143 appearances for Colorado, scoring 82 goals.

In his short career he’s already added a Copa Libertadores title to his name and was crowned as the top scorer during last year’s Olympic Games.

Villas-Boas’ predecessor, Harry Redknapp, was also a fan of the player but this news may spell the end of the club’s interest for the time being at least.
