Barcelona have distanced themselves from reports that their long standing goalkeeper Victor Valdes will be leaving the club this summer, talkSPORT reports.

The 31-year-old has widely tipped to move on this summer after making the shock announcement stating desire to move on earlier this season.

A whole host of clubs had said to be battling it out with each other for his signature with Manchester United seeking a replacement for David De Gea, Liverpool hoping to find someone to fill Pepe Reina’s shoes and Arsenal who want somebody more experienced than Wojciech Szcz?sny as well as several German sides also in the hunt.

However, that may be a list of disappointed clubs as Barcelona Vice-President Josep Maria Bartomeu believes Valdes will still be between the sticks next term;

“We don’t need a Valdes replacement immediately as he’s told us that he will leave in 2014. We consider Valdes to be the best goalkeeper in the world, but he doesn’t want to stay,” he said.

“When we sign a new goalkeeper we will thank Victor and let him go, but we hope he reconsiders before then.”

Valdes has made 40 appearances across all competitions for Barca so far this season.
