White Hart Lane side hope to see off competition from Anfield in pursuit of St James’ Park wide-man.
Tottenham are reportedly in negotiations with Newcastle United over winger Hatem Ben Arfa. The North London side will challenge Liverpool for the French international according to the Daily Express.
The 26 year old former Marseille man has had a mixed time of it during his time at St James’ Park, hit with lengthy injury lay-offs and occasional bouts of poor form, laced on occasion with more than just the occasional world-class display.
Now however it seems he could be on his way out and the Magpies may be ready to listen to good offers for a player who cost Newcastle United £7m.
The French international can play on either wing but given Andre Villas-Boas has nailed on first choices in Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon it would appear that Ben Arfa would have to make a real impact to garner a regular spot in the Spurs line-up.
Ben Arfa has managed just 32 Premier League starts in three seasons at Newcastle United, scoring nine goals in the process.
The talented attacker may feel that a high profile move could help re-ignite his international career, especially with a World Cup on the horizon. Ben Arfa hasn’t won a French cap since the Euro 2012 finals.
