West Ham United have denied reports that they have signed Shakhtar Donetsk defender Razvan Rat, and have even claimed that they aren’t even interested in the player, talkSPORT reports.

News broke last week that the East London club had reached an agreement to bring the 31-year-old to Upton Park upon the expiration of his contract in the Ukraine this summer, but it appears now that the press may have jumped the gun a little and that in fact the club hadn’t struck a deal with the Romanian international at all.

When asked about the deal Hammers number two, Neil McDonald, denied that Rat was already on his way to the club, but kept quiet on whether a deal is in the pipeline.

“It’s all hearsay and rumours at the moment,” he said.

“But hopefully we’ll be linked with a few more players. It’s always good for the football club to show that we’re on the up and people want to come here. But without mentioning any names it’s hearsay and rumours.”

“But the recruitment process has been ongoing for quite a while, since January I suppose just trying to strengthen the team and get some competition in to make sure we go onto another level.”

Rat joined Shakhtar in 2003 and will end his ten year association with the club next month.
