Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal to trigger Loic Remy’s QPR release clause this summer.

The French international has long been linked with a move to the North London club and having impressed since his January move to Loftus Road Arsene Wenger is now ready to meet the £8m asking price to sign the 26 year old at the end of the current campaign.

Remy found himself out of the Marseille starting eleven under new boss Elie Baup, despite finishing the previous two campaigns as the club’s top scorer and the former Nice man had appeared to be on his way to join Newcastle United in January before QPR hijacked his St James’ Park move and signed the speedy striker in an £8m deal.

Though Remy was unable to prevent his side from being relegated to the Championship he has impressed with his displays in the English top tier, scoring five goals in ten starts for the Loftus Road side.

QPR owner Tony Fernandes will be looking to balance the books following his side’s relegation and knows that he can not afford to keep his expansive squad and will be looking to offload a number of his top earners and as such will no doubt be keen to accept early offers for any players he wants to sell.

Loic Remy’s contract includes an £8m release clause that became ‘live’ the moment QPR were relegated, in many ways his half season at the West London club has been an effective shop window for the marksman and now Arsenal are keen to make a purchase.

Though other interested parties may well also look to trigger Remy’s clause it is thought that the forward is keen on moving to the Emirates Stadium where Wenger will hope he can strengthen the Gunners attack.

Last summer’s forward signings Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski have both had fairly decent first seasons at Arsenal but without really providing a prolific presence up front.

French international Giroud has managed 17 goals in all competitions but his tally of 11 Premier League goals from 33 appearances is hardly earth shattering. Experienced German Podolski has spent most of the season playing in a wide attacking role and has netted a sedate total of nine in 30 top tier appearances but has also been one of the club’s chief assist makers.

Wenger will hope to bring in Remy to offer more options up front and the Arsenal boss continues to track Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic.

The Arsenal manager is ready to offload the likes of Marouane Chamakh, Nicklas Bendtner, Park Chu Young as well as Ivory Coast international Gervinho, who is said to be interesting Turkish side Galatasaray.
