Barcelona want Pepe Reina to replace Victor Valdes.

Check in to Liverpool vs Everton

Liverpool’s out-of-form goalkeeper Pepe Reina has emerged as a surprise target for Spanish giants Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Reds have looked to sell the Spanish shot stopper this summer after a dip in form over the last couple of seasons. They have been linked with the likes of Michel Vorm as possible replacements.

They may have an easier time of shifting him now, as Barcelona have identified him as a target to replace their ‘keeper Victor Valdes, who declared earlier this season that he would be leaving the club.

Funnily enough, Valdes has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, so the two goalkeeprs could swap places this summer. Valdes has also been linked with PSG and Arsenal, as he seeks a new challenge after growing weary at the Nou Camp.

Reina actually started his career at Barca, coming up through their youth team and playing 30 games between 2000 and 2002. He later made a name for himself at fellow La Liga club Villareal, before moving to Liverpool in 2005.

The 30-year-old was thought of as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in the earlier part of his Anfield career, and was linked a couple of times with a move to Arsenal. Now, however, the Reds would welcome interest from Barcelona or indeed anyone as they look to improve their number one spot.
