Chelsea are said to be closing in on a deal to welcome Jose Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge and the Real Madrid boss is linked with a move to bring German midfielder Sami Khedira to the West London club with him according to the Daily Mail.

Mourinho has been edging nearer to a Chelsea return and with a move said to be 80% complete, according to the manager’s agent Jorge Mendes, the returning boss will look to step up his pursuit of summer transfer targets.

Though Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on bringing experienced Spaniard Xabi Alonso to Chelsea the feeling is that such a move doesn’t fit with the club’s youthful transfer policy that also adopts a policy of only offering one year contracts to players over 30, hence the 31 year old former Liverpool schemer not being a viable option.

This will reportedly lead to Mourinho setting his sights on German midfielder Khedira, who the Portuguese boss brought to the Bernabeu from Stuttgart in 2010.

The 26 year old tough tackler has had a mixed time of it during his three seasons at the Spanish giants but did help Real Madrid to a La Liga title last term and may well be ideally suited to life in the Premier League.

Mourinho may feel that Khedira would be an improvement on the likes of John Obi Mikel, Oriol Romeu and Michael Essien for a defensive midfield spot.
