Anfield side pursue FC Twente defender.

Check in to Fulham vs Liverpool

Liverpool have set their sights on Brazilian centre-back Douglas as Brendan Rodgers looks to bring in a replacement for retiring veteran Jamie Carragher according to the Daily Mail.

Rodgers, who will apparently have up to £25m to invest in his Anfield squad, can pick up the experienced defender on a free transfer as his FC Twente contract is up at the end of the current campaign.

Both Newcastle United and Inter Milan are said to be interested but Rodgers will hope to lure the 25 year old Anfield. Though Brazilian by birth Douglas now holds a Dutch passport and has been called up to the Holland national team squad but is yet to win his first cap.

Douglas has spent six years at FC Twente, helping the club to a Eredivisie title in 2010.

Carragher hangs up his boots this summer after 17 seasons in the Liverpool first team, during which time he has racked up 735 appearances for the Merseyside club.

Rodgers appears to have fallen out with Slovakian Martin Skrtel who has started just one Premier League match since January and with youngster Sebastien Coates seemingly not part of the Liverpool first team set-up there is certainly room for a defensive addition this summer.
