Barcelona midfielder Alex Song told Sky Sports that he still believes Arsene Wenger is the right man to manage Arsenal.

The Cameroon international left the Emirates Stadium for Barca at the start of the season, and although he praised his former club, he believes it is a different level at the Nou Camp, saying he is playing for the best team in the world.

Song was the second high-profile departure from Arsenal this season, with Wenger being on the receiving end of much criticism after selling both him and star striker Robin van Persie.

These departures of key players, as well as a lack of silverware for eight years have led to calls from some Arsenal fans for the manager to be sacked, but Song believes his old boss is still doing a great job with the Gunners.

“He’s the right man,” he said.

“I spent eight years with him and he’s just unbelievable. I still keep in touch with him and the last time I met him he was very happy. Hopefully he’ll stay longer at Arsenal because if they lose him today then they won’t be the same.”

Song has been linked with a return to Arsenal after just one season, due to a lack of playing time at Barcelona. However, the man himself insists he is happy and knows he is lucky to be with such a great team.

“It’s a pleasure to be here,” the 25-year-old added. “Many people want to be here so I know I’m lucky to be here.

“It is different here than Arsenal. It’s not the same. Arsenal have very good players but Barcelona have the best player in the world – Lionel Messi – and that’s why the pace is different.

“We have quality players. I’m not saying Arsenal don’t have quality players because they do, but Barcelona are the best team in the world.”
