Fulham and Aston Villa are set to be disappointed in their pursuit of French international midfielder Mathieu Flamini as he is set to sign a new deal with AC Milan, according to talkSPORT.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and was largely thought to be heading back to the Premier League with the two aforementioned teams said to be strongly linked with a move for the former Arsenal man.

Flamini had been heading for the exit in June with the club confirming that they wouldn’t be offering him a new deal having had a limited impact in the squad during the opening months of the season, but he has since seen a turnaround in his fortunes since the new year as he has found a place in the side and even chipped in with three goals.

He has now apparently done enough at the San Siro to earn himself a new deal, which is expected to be for two years.

The new deal will, however, involve a significant pay cut.

Mila currently sit in third place in the Serie A table, four points ahead of Fiorentina with three games to go.
