Jose Mourinho has his heart set on the Chelsea job when he leaves Real Madrid at the end of the season, despite interest from Manchester United, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Portuguese tactician seems the ideal candidate for United to replace Sir Alex Ferguson, who stunned the football world after he announced his retirement earlier today.

But it seems the former Porto and Inter Milan boss favours a return to Stamford Bridge, where he enjoyed great success between 2004 and 2007.

His decision could lead to Everton manager David Moyes taking the job at Old Trafford, and the Scot is currently favourite to do so.

It is understood that Manchester United themselves may favour Moyes as a long term solution anyway, as Mourinho has a history of changing clubs frequently after only short spells in charge, as he has done at Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

His time at Chelsea was also cut short, though on that occasion it was brought on by a falling out with owner Roman Abramovich, but it now seems that the two are ready to work together again, with the Blues chief favouring Mourinho over other options such as Manuel Pellegrini and Jurgen Klopp.
