Jose Mourinho wants Frank Lampard to sign a new contract with Chelsea if he rejoins the club this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 34-year-old has been in a contract dispute with the Blues all season, as he is apparently no longer valued by owner Roman Abramovich due to his age and the competition ahead of him in the Chelsea staring lineup.

Lampard has often been behind the likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Oscar in the Chelsea team this season, but has still had a decent season despite his limited opportunities.

Having been a regular starter and key player for former boss Mourinho, it is understood that the Real Madrid boss still has Lampard in his plans if he makes a return to Stamford Bridge next season.

The 50-year-old is unhappy at the Bernebeu and favours a second spell at Chelsea, despite links to the Manchester United job to replace the retiring Sir Alex Ferguson.

Many stories suggest that Mourinho’s return to the Bridge is all but done, and that he has already outlined some transfer targets for next season, such as Robert Lewandowski and perhaps even Cristiano Ronaldo.
