Porto’s highly rated striker Jackson Martinez has reportedly rejected the opportunity to move to Russia this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The 26-year-old has apparently turned down the chance to join big spenders Anzhi Makhachkala on the basis of ‘sporting reasons,’ opening the door for a number of Premier League sides to press ahead with a move for him.

The Russian side apparently tabled a bid of £24 million to take him off of Porto’s hands, but that number still fell well short of the £38 million release clause installed in his contract.

His excellent form this season has seen him bag 25 goals in 28 games for the Portuguese giants, which has subjected him to heavy speculation over a move away.

And the news of his apparent ambition has opened the doors for Liverpool and Manchester United to concentrate on making a move for him. Turkish side Galatasaray are also reported to be interested in making an offer for him too.

Porto are beginning to earn a reputation for finding little known strikers and turning them into mega stars as his success has followed in the footsteps of Lisandro Lopez, Hulk, and Radamel Falcao.
