Andre Villas-Boas targeting Barca midfielder.
A story in the Metro claims that Tottenham will make Barcelona youngster Sergi Roberto their first signing of the summer.
The 21-year-old is frustrated at a lack of first team football at the Nou Camp, and doesn’t fancy his chances of getting ahead of the likes of Xavi and Andres Iniesta in the Catalans’ star-studded midfield.
However, Spurs rate Roberto highly, and have held talks with Barcelona over bringing the Spaniard to White Hart Lane for a fee believed to be around £7million.
Andre Villas-Boas’ side could do with strengthening in midfield following the sale of Luka Modric to Real Madrid last summer, as the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Moussa Dembele have struggled for fitness and form at times this season.
Spurs qualifying for the Champions League would increase their chances of landing the Barca man, but his desire to get a move away from the Nou Camp should help push the move through regardless.
Barcelona could be set to lose more young players this summer, with Cristian Tello available for cheap due to a clause in his contract, and attracting interest from Liverpool and Arsenal.
