Jesus Gamez could be Saints bound.
Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino is targeting another little known La Liga ace in the shape of Malaga defender Jesus Gamez, according to talkSPORT.
The former Espanyol boss is hoping to utilise his knowledge and contacts in Spain as he prepares to strengthen the south coast squad in an attempt to consolidate the club as Premier League regulars once again and he has targeted the 28-year-old full back as an ideal recruit as he would be available for just £5 million.
Gamez has spent his entire career with Malaga where he came through the youth ranks and was there before the new owners, money, big name stars and subsequent financial difficulties surrounded the club.
He has made over 200 appearances for the side during a eight year spell and last year penned a new deal to keep him in Malaga until 2016.
However, the aforementioned financial difficulties are taking their toll on the side and the La Liga outfit are willing to listen to any offers for their playing staff as they hope to reduce the defect and that includes Gamez.
It is hoped that he would provide some experienced competition for Nathaniel Clyne and he would certainly be suitably experienced having featured in eight of Malaga’s Champions League fixtures this season.
