Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas will launch a £12.6m bid to sign Barcelona striker David Villa this summer according to the Daily Star.

The North London club will have to battle local rivals Arsenal as well as La Liga side Atletico Madrid, who are all also interested in the experienced 31 year old.

Villas-Boas could do with strengthening his attack given that Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor have struggle for form for much of the current campaign.

England international Defoe has managed just one Premier League goal in 2013 and Adebayor, his great goal against Chelsea aside, has been a massive disappointment since making his temporary move to White Hart Lane a permanent one in the summer. Villas-Boas has been indebted to Gareth Bale for providing some much needed goal-scoring support but now wants to bring in former Valencia man Villa.

The Spanish international has been something of a bit-part player this term, managing just 14 La Liga starts, and with Barcelona set to conduct something of a rebuilding job there is every chance a decent offer for Villa, who has just over a year to run on his current contract, will be considerd.

Villa is a proven goal-scorer with over 300 goals for club and country to his name.
