Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has denied that goalkeeper Pepe Reina will be leaving the club this season despite heavy speculation linking him with a move away, according to talkSPORT.

The 30-year-old had been a reported target for Spanish giants Barcelona as they seek out a replacement for Victor Valdes who has cast doubt over his own future by expressing his desire to leave a year before his contract expires.

He has also been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal too as they want somebody more established and proven than Polish youngster Wojciech Szcz?sny who has been suffering with a crisis in confidence this season, drawing public criticism from his manager, Arsene Wenger.

Reina himself has not been in sparkling form this term either, and suggestions earlier in the campaign that Rodgers may look to move him on in favour for his former custodian at Swansea, Michel Vorm.

However, Rodgers moved to clear up the rumours this week by expressing his desire to see the 26-cap Spanish international see out the remaining thee years of his contract on Merseyside.

“We’re into that silly season now. He’s not for sale. He’s got three years on his contract now,” he said.
