Italian giants Inter Milan are set to rival Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo this summer, according to talkSPORT.

Spurs are still in with a shout on qualifying for next season’s Champions League but manager Andre Villas-Boas feels the club would be heading into the final game of the season with their future unknown had they had more firepower this season and will look to top up their goal threat this summer following the disappointing form of Emmanuel Adebayor and the injury woes of Jermain Defoe.

Spurs had been linked with a number of quality strikers recently including Christian Benteke, Leandro Damiao and Alvaro Negredo with the latter being the likely option.

AVB sees the Spanish international as the ideal foil for the creativeness of Gareth Bale and have reportedly been working on a deal to bring him to White Heart Lane, though they now face some tough competition from Italy in the shape of Inter Milan.

Inter’s sporting director Marco Branca spoke to the press lately to confirm the club’s interest in the 27-year-old.

“He is a great player and one I know very well. But now is not the time to do crazy things,” he said.

“It is one thing for us to be interested in a player and quite another for us to be able to afford his contract.”

Negredo has bagged 28 goals in 36 games this season.
