Controversial midfielder Joey Barton has confirmed that he is hoping to stay at Marseille beyond the end of the season, according to talkSPORT.

The 30-year-old has spent the season on loan with the French giants after he was handed a 12 game ban at QPR for assaulting a Manchester City player on the final day of the campaign last season but has enjoyed his time in Ligue 1 and is keen to extend his stay on the continent despite QPR owner Tony Fernandes claiming that he may be needed back at the West London club next term.

However, Barton has revealed that he is ready to reject any advances to take him back to England in a bid to stick with Marseille.

“I hope to stay here. Marseille have made me a proposal. I have a two-year contract with QPR which complicates everything,” he told French newspaper L’Equipe.

“Otherwise, I would not even be asking the question. I have also had offers in the Premier League, more financially attractive ones too.”

Barton has made 23 appearances for the side this season, helping them secure Champions League football as they fell short of taking PSG all the way for the title.
