Interim Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez has claimed that he expects Chelsea to splash the cash this summer to back the new boss who takes his place, The Express reports.

Benitez ended his rocky spell at the club on a high by winning the Europa League this week in a thrilling 2-1 victory over Portuguese giants Benfica – a game that will be his penultimate match before moving on over the summer.

And the former Liverpool has predicted big things for the club this summer, giving supporters another reason to cheer.

“Chelsea will be much better next season because they will spend £100million and they will sign three or four players,” Benitez told Spanish radio station Onda Cero. “They have good young players like (Victor) Moses, (Eden) Hazard, Oscar, (Cesar) Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Fernando Torres, Oriol (Romeu), they are all improving and they all have potential. The foundation is already there. The future is bright for them.”

Jose Mourinho is largely expected to take over from Benitez this summer for a second spell at the helm of Stamford Bridge, and Paulo Ferrera, a player brought to the club by Mourinho nine years ago has echoed the fans hopes to see his former Porto boss back in West London.

“It’s not just me, I think everyone (wants to see him come back),” Ferreira said. “This means titles and that is what the club wants. Nothing is better than him.”
