The big-spending French club are keen to follow up their Ligue 1 triumph this season with an assault on the Champions League, and are willing to make the Portuguese star the most expensive payer of all time – again.
The 28-year-old initially joined Real Madrid for a record-breaking fee of £80million, and rumour has it he is ready to leave the club this summer after a difficult season in Spain.
Manchester United had hoped to pounce, and were willing to offer around £60million plus Nani and Javier Hernandez to bring their former star player back to Old Trafford, but they may not be able to compete with the kind of money PSG can now offer.
The French club’s recent rise is thanks to their billionaire Qatari owners, who have spent big money on big names like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Javier Pastore, Thiago Silva and Lucas Moura, but the £84million signing of Ronaldo would certainly top the lot.
United may now turn their attention to Tottenham’s Gareth Bale, though the Welsh winger is also a target to replace Ronaldo at Real Madrid.
