Sources in Portugal suggest that the move of Joao Moutinho from Porto to Tottenham this summer could already be a done deal, according to news outlet Desporto.

Spurs were known to be in for him last summer in the late hours before the close of the transfer window, though a move fell through, but Moutinho’s fellow countryman Andre Villas-Boas is keen to try again to bring him to White Hart Lane.

The 26-year-old midfielder would be an ideal replacement for Luka Modric, who was sold to Real Madrid last summer. The likes of Moussa Dembele and Gylfi Sigurdsson have been brought in to plug that gap, though both have had inconsistent seasons.

Moutinho played under Villas-Boas when the Spurs boss was manager of Porto a few years ago, and played a crucial part in the team’s treble win, and is highly valued by his club at around £33million.

This would certainly be an expensive move, and it has been suggested that it would take the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid to fund this move, which would be a souring note for Spurs fans.

The club desperately hope to keep Bale, though his sale would surely lead to a number of signings around the squad.
