Manchester City right-back Pablo Zabaleta has welcomed the possible arrival from Malaga of manager Manuel Pellgrini, he has told the Daily Express.

The Argentinian defender has been a stand-out performer for City this season, despite their failure to retain the Premier League title or win any silverware.

This lack of success has led to the sacking of Roberto Mancini, and Pellegrini has long been the favourite to take over at the Etihad Stadium next season, a move that Zabaleta thinks will bring success to the club.

“He’s done well at Real Madrid, Malaga and Villarreal,” said the 28-year-old. “Now we will see how he will do at Manchester City if he comes.”

Zabaleta pointed out that Pellegrini is the perfect solution to their current problems – their struggles in the Champions League, and their overly-defensive play under Mancini this season.

He added: “He’s a very quiet person and he likes to play attractive football. His record in Europe is also great and that’s somewhere we haven’t done so well in recent seasons.

“Pellegrini likes to play with two wingers, get the ball out wide. We will be more attacking. You saw with Malaga that whenever they played, they played to win. That is important for a top team.”

Although Pellegrini has never managed in England before, Zabaleta believes he will adapt to the Premier League quickly.

“Pellegrini won’t have a problem adapting. It will be his first experience of managing in England but he’s worked in a lot of countries.

“When you have as much experience as he has, he will have everything very clear in his mind. He’s a clever person and he will know exactly what he needs to do when he takes over.

“He will expect to do well straight away and, if we work well, he can be a success.”

The Chilean manager confirmed his departure from Malaga earlier this week, and will be expecting to bring star player Isco with him to Manchester, in one of many big-money moves to take place at the club this summer.
