Tottenham are ready to make a statement of intent this summer, starting with the signing of Zenit St. Petersburg’s Hulk.

The White Hart Lane side are still reeling from their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

The club looked on course for a comfortable top four finish following their victory over Arsenal in March.

But the final table saw the Gunner pip Tottenham to fourth place by a single point.

Spurs are desperate to avoid a repeat from happening next season and are ready to invest significant sums of money in the team.

Their ambitious outlook also serves the purpose of persuading Gareth Bale his future lies at White Hart Lane.

Spurs are set to start their summer spending with the signing of Zenit St Petersburg’s want-away striker Hulk.

The Brazilian arrived at the club last summer in a £52 million deal but has failed to settle in Russia and has made it clear he is looking for a move away from the club during the coming months.

Spurs boss Andre Vilas-Boas has reportedly identified a new striker as one of his top summer priorities after disappointing seasons from Manu Adebayor and Jermain Defoe.

While Adebayor improved near the end of the season, he managed just five goals all campaign, while Defoe started off well but saw his goals dry up following the turn of the year.
