Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has vowed to fight off Real Madrid and resist any £40 million bid that they might make, according to Telegraph.

The 26-year-old has become one of the most wanted players in Europe after rumours suggested that Liverpool may look to off load him this summer after being slapped with a 10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.

However, Rodgers has remained defiant in the face of repeated calls to move the Uruguayan on by insisting that he won’t cash in on the striker even if Real do make their whopping £40 million bid.

A source from inside the club said: “We will not sell Luis Suarez.

“Brendan Rodgers has said this on several occasions and the club will not entertain any bids be it Real Madrid or anyone else.

“Luis is one of the world’s best players and is not for sale.”

Real are thought to be interested as he would be a cheaper option than his compatriot Edinson Cavani, who has a £52 million release clause installed in his contract.

The Spanish giants have reportedly already been in touch with the players agent, Pere Guardiola, brother of former Barcelona coach, Pep, but so for no concrete bid has been made. However, they may also face competition from PSG who are also interested and both will be hoping the lure of Champions League football will be enough for him to ask for a move away from Merseyside.
