Barcelona are believed to be considering making a concrete offer for Chelsea defender David Luiz this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The Spanish champions have reportedly been interested in the 26-year-old for a while and could go ahead with a bid to bring him to the Camp Nou should they miss out on landing PSG stopper Thiago Silva.

The Catalan giants are keen to add defensive re-enforcements to their ranks after suffering a humiliating 7-0 aggregate defeat to eventual winners Bayern Munich and have identified Silva and Luiz as the ideal players to plug the gaps.

However, Luiz has enjoyed a strong season for the west London outfit after being taken from the centre of defence and into midfield by interim manager Rafa Benitez.

That hasn’t stopped Barcelona from viewing him as a viable option in the centre of defence, though, and Jose Mourinho, who is all but to be confirmed as Chelsea’s new manager, has said to be considering letting the former Benfica man go for the right price this summer.

Luiz has made 57 appearances across all competitions for the Blues this season, bagging seven goals in the process. He has been involved in both the sublime and the ridiculous as he struck two wonder goals against Fulham and Basel respectively, but was criticised for smiling whilst Rafael was sent off during their encounter with Manchester United.
