Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is reportedly keen to leave Anfield this summer and has set his sights on a move to join Real Madrid according to respected reporter Guillem Balague in his latest column for Sport.es.

Such news will come as a shock to the club’s fanbase who are more than aware of just how crucial a member of the Liverpool set-up the 26 year old marksman is.

Suarez is in the middle of a ten game ban handed down to him after he bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic and is apparently unhappy with the manner in which he has been treated by the footballing authorities in the English top tier as well as the constant bombardment he has come under from the nation’s press.

A move to Real Madrid may well be one the Bernabeu side are interested in given that both Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema have failed to adequately support Cristiano Ronaldo and with Jose Mourinho set to leave there is talk of wholesale changes at the La Liga club this summer.

Suarez has an excellent season in 2012/13, scoring 30 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions and has scored a total of 51 goals in 96 appearances since his £22.8m move from Ajax back in January 2011.

Brendan Rodgers would be loathed to lose a player of Suarez’s quality but perhaps the Northern Irishman will be buoyed by the way his side coped without their top scorer in the final four games of the campaign, during which time they won three and draw one, scoring ten goals in the process.
