Chelsea have reportedly opened talks with Italian side Roma over securing the sale of midfield ace Daniele De Rossi, according to The Express.

The Premier League giants are set to confirm Jose Mourinho as their new manager next week and the special one, who is a known fan of the box-to-box World Cup winner, is set to pre sanction a move for the 29-year-old.

De Rossi had previously stated that he wanted to stay at Roma for life but a difficult campaign in the Italian capital has changed the minds of both player and club and the skipper has been granted a move away.

Roma president James Palotta and general manager Franco Baldini were reportedly in London yesterday to discuss the potential sale of the midfielder to Chelsea.

Potential Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is also keen on bringing in the 84-cap international but the Spanish giants have had to turn their attentions toward the likes of Tottenham’s Gareth Bale and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

Mourinho may find himself with a £100 million transfer kitty this summer and has targeted De Rossi as a key member of the new look midfield that he is planning at Stamford Bridge.
