Manchester United and Manchester City are set to go head to head this summer as they look to secure the signing of Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas according to The Daily Mail.

United have reportedly made contact with Barcelona over a move for the Spanish international.

The midfielder arrived at the club from Arsenal in 2011 for a fee of £35 million but has struggled to make an impact on the Catalan giants’ first team.

It is thought that the La Liga Champions would be willing to discuss a deal in the £25 million region.

New United boss David Moyes is reportedly keen to strengthen in the middle of the park and has identified Fabregas as one of his top summer transfer targets.

But United’s interest has alerted Manchester City, who are also keen on the former Arsenal captain.

City are keen to rebuild in the post-Mancini era as they look to mount their bid to regain the Premier League title.

Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini is expected to be confirmed as their new coach in the coming days and is reportedly in agreement about the signing of Fabgreas.

Things could be complicated further as Arsenal currently retain the first option on his signing as part of the deal that saw him leave the Emirates two seasons ago.
