Real Madrid are ready to make their opening offer for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez according to the Daily Mirror.

The Spanish giants are willing to fork out £20m and will look to sweeten the deal with the inclusion of adaptable attacker Jose Callejon, an offer that is sure to be given short shrift by the Anfield side.

The Bernabeu side are ready to offer Suarez a £140k a week deal as they look to seal a deal to sign the wantaway striker who has this week publicly stated his intention to leave his Merseyside club.

Suarez’s agent, Pere Guardiola is in the process of discussing personal terms with the Real Madrid ahead of their formal offer.

Liverpool have reacted to Suarez’s comments by stating categorically that the 26 year old striker is not for sale though there is speculation that the former Ajax man’s contract does include a release clause, thought to be set around £40m.

Though Brendan Rodgers has been linked with interest in Callejon in the past it seems likely that this offer as it stands would have little or no chance of securing Suarez.

Though 26 year old Callejon has made 29 La Liga appearances this season, more than half of have come from the bench and the former Espanyol man has managed just two goals in that period and is still to receive a first Spanish national team cap and that perhaps tells you that the Real Madrid bit-part player is an average player at best and seemingly not the type of makeweight that is likely to see any Suarez deal completed.

Rather this could perhaps be the La Liga side’s opening gambit to test the water and to make it abundantly clear to Luis Suarez that he is indeed a player they are interested in, one wonders just how likely they are to put in a big money bid for the Liverpool striker.
