Man United are strongly linked with moves to capture Benfica centre-back Ezequiel Garay and Everton left-back Leighton Baines as David Moyes looks to strengthen his Old Trafford defence.

The Daily Mirror states that Man United ‘expect’ to bring in £15m rated England man Baines as Patrice Evra homes in on a return to Monaco this summer.

David Moyes would no doubt jump at the chance of reuniting with Baines being well aware of just how much he could offer Man United both in defence and in attack.

The set-piece specialist is one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League and a move to join a club that can offer him a taste of Champions League football will be too tempting to turn down.

The same source states that a £17m deal has been agreed between Lisbon side Benfica and Man United that will see Argentine international Garay join the Premier League title holders.

Moyes is keen to beef up his central defensive options to take into account Rio Ferdinand’s age and Nemanja Vidic’s continuing injury concerns.

The 26 year old former Real Madrid defender has had an excellent season at the Estadio da Luz but has seen Benfica lose out in the Primeira Liga title race on the last day of the season, tasted a domestic cup final defeat Vitória Guimarães and also lost the Europa League final in the last minute against Chelsea.

All of which could leave the powerful centre back very much tempted by a possible move to Man United.
