Roma defender Marquinhos has waved away the speculation linking him with other clubs by insisting that he is only interested in featuring more for the Serie A giants, Sky Sports reports.

The highly rated 19-year-old enjoyed a fine breakthrough season at Roma, making 26 appearances, and he had reportedly been on the radars of Chelsea and Manchester City, as well as Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, despite the links with some of Europe’s top clubs he has insisted that he is happy at the Stadio Olimpico and is not looking to move away and has trusted his agent to let others know that he is not interested in negotiating.

“I want to respect my deal with Roma,” he told Globo Esporte.

“I still have four years on my contract and I don’t think about the market.”

“It is normal that offers and rumours come in please me,” he added.

“But I leave it to my agents. I think only to play.”

Marquinhos began his career at Brazilian outfit Corinthians and after just a handful of appearances in the first team he was snapped up by the side from the Italian capital and quickly set about keeping former Inter defender and Argentine international Nicolas Burdisso on the bench.
