Wayne Rooney looks set to remain at Manchester United after he was given a prominent role in the club’s latest kit advertising campaign according to The Star.

The future of the England international has been under intense speculation in recent weeks after former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed the player had handed in a transfer request.

Rooney was reportedly unhappy with his diminished role in the Manchester United team this season. He has been somewhat overshadowed at the club after the arrival of Robin Van Persie from Arsenal last summer.

The striker has gone from being one of the first names on the team sheet to no longer being guaranteed a place in the starting eleven for the club’s biggest games.

Rooney was reportedly furious after being dropped for United’s crucial Champions League last sixteen game against Real Madrid. That reportedly was the last straw for Rooney who decided to seek a move away from the club during the summer.

The likes of Bayern Munich and PSG have been linked with a move for Rooney. But it now appears that new United boss David Moyes has persuaded his former protégé of the benefits of remaining at Old Trafford.
