Manchester United are ready to tempt Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski to Old Trafford with the offer of a bumper pay deal according to The Sun.

Lewandowski was widely expected to sign for Bundesliga side Bayern Munich in the coming weeks but that move appears to have been put on hold after Dortmund insisted they would not be selling the Polish striker to their bitter rivals.

That has led to Manchester United reviving their interest in the player with the club known to have been tracking Lewandowski for some time.

United were reportedly close to sealing a deal for Lewandowski last summer up until it was revealed that Dutch striker Robin Van Persie was available.

New United boss David Moyes is a also a keen admirer of the player and the club are ready to offer the striker wages of £90,000 a week in order to tempt him to the Premier League.

That is over double the current £40,000 a week pay package Lewandowski currently receives with the Champions League finalists.

Should Lewandowski arrive at Old Trafford, that could spell the end for Wayne Rooney. The England star is already thought to be frustrated with his diminished role in the side and is unlikely to welcome the additional competition.
